Changing Metahuman Facial Expressions

Original Discord Post by esrasitepu | 2024-07-30 04:12:23

Hello! So, I tried Convai yesterday, and it seems to be working well so far in UE 5.3 with Metahuman.

However, I have questions regarding the facial expressions. I want to make her smile and appear energetic, as I want her to seem friendly, especially when answering questions. Is it possible to do that?

I recently found an example in the gallery channel, and this is facial expression that I want to achieve.

Hi <@724135790627520532>, you can change the initial facial expression from the Initial Emotions field when you select the character

You can add a surprise emotion along with the happy one

I already tried to combine both the surprise and happy emotions, but the expression doesn’t change. I tried reversing the order of the emotions, but the result was the same. <@365628745886859267> <@1023671043287699568>

I was just messing around with the Convai AI face-to-mesh blueprint. I found that in this blueprint, I can also control the character’s state and emotions. The most interesting part are called “Is Actor in Focus” and “Is Looking to Actor,” which make the character always look at the camera. However, after I compiled the blueprint, the expression on my metahuman didn’t change at all. I also tried to find the “Is Looking to Actor” node in the outliner section but couldn’t locate it. Is it possible to apply that setting to my metahuman? Do you have any documentation that I can access regarding this feature?

Hi <@724135790627520532>, you can try our latest Content folder for the plugin Versions below 3.4.x - Google Drive, simply backup the current Content folder on the Convai plugin directory and add use this one instead, it has a different emotion system that is better than the marketplace

Hi, I already tried the latest file of Convai and it looks great! The facial expressions are better than before. By the way, I have a few more questions:

  1. I wonder, could we add our own custom facial and body animations? We plan to record them using Live Link or MetaHuman Animator and bake them into an animation sequence. Is this possible?

  2. There is a feature called “Is Actor in Focus” and “Is Looking to Actor” in the blueprint. Can I apply it to Metahuman?

Thank you in advance!
