How to Update the Unreal 5 Plugin to the newest version?

Original Discord Post by agwaguia | 2024-01-26 15:32:18

I was follow the tutorial “AI NPCs Take Action from Conversation”, when I discoverd the Plugin wasn’t the latest version (Plugins tab is showing Version 2.7.0) , I try to update inside the Unreal Marketplace but I didn’t find a way there to upload either the Plugins tab inside the Engine.
Does anybody knows how to update the plugin to the latest version?

Hi <@360148713542385664>, you can update the plugin by doing the following:

  • Open the Epic Launcher
  • Open the Unreal Engine tab on the left
  • Choose the Library tab from the top
  • Under the UE version you are using, select Installed Plugins
  • Find Convai in the list and select Update

I already open that, but the only option is remove from engine:

If it’s showing a version below 3.0.1 in the plugins tab then try removing then installing again

If you removed it from the engine and it’s still showing in the plugins tab that means that it still exists somewhere.

  • Check the Plugins folder in your project directory, there could be another Convai there.
  • Search the engine directory for the word Convai

I’ve done both that now, even remove the lipsync and ReadyPlayerMe plugins, but nothing changed, is still showing the old version

That’s very strange, it’s hidden somewhere in the engine, could you double search again the engine directory. Because otherwise, it doesn’t make sense that it still shows up even after removing it

Or perhaps it requires a restart of the editor as it might have cached the plugin?

Maybe if I reinstall the engine it might work

That’s the last solution to go to indeed, but before you do that could you create a new project from scratch and check that the Convai plugin is there or not?

because if you do not find the plugin in a new project then it is likely that it is hidden inside one of the plugins you have in your original project, it could have been somehow copied inside another plugin folder

I remove the plugin from the engine again and isn’t showing it when I open a new project in the plugins tab

Then I install directly from the store and appear the same version

I tried change the engine to the newest (5.3) and is showing the same convai version 2.7.0

After I delete all of files from UE5 and move the projects I manage to install the newest version of Convai
