New version breaks multi-NPC simultaneous dialogue

Hello Convai Team,

I am writing this with extreme urgency as our live media art exhibition is currently suspended due to a sudden issue with Convai versioning in Unreal Engine 5.6.

Up until today, our project was running successfully using Convai v5.6. However, it has suddenly become disabled/inactive.

While upgrading to the latest version allows for connection, it introduces a critical blocker for our specific installation layout:

  • The Problem: In the latest version, when two NPCs are placed in the scene, only one is capable of speaking or handling dialogue at a time.

  • Our Project Requirement: Our installation relies on a circulating narrative system where multiple NPCs must remain active and capable of dialogue simultaneously (which worked perfectly in v5.6).

Because this is a live public exhibition, every hour of downtime heavily impacts our visitors.

  1. Is there any way to temporarily re-enable/bypass the restriction on Convai v5.6 for our account/project?

  2. If not, is there a known workaround or setting in the latest version to allow multiple NPCs to talk simultaneously without locking each other out?

Any immediate assistance, hotfix, or guidance would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Could you please share the Character ID and logs?

Hello Convai Team,

Thank you for your response.

First of all, I would like to update you that Convai v5.6 is currently back up and running normally on our end. Because of this, our live exhibition has successfully resumed. Thank you so much for your support.

Regarding the latest version, I would like to double-check its technical specifications for our future updates.

Is our understanding correct that in the current latest version, when multiple NPCs are placed in a scene, only the first NPC is capable of speaking/handling dialogue, and the system locks out the others from talking simultaneously?

We would appreciate it if you could confirm this specification. Thank you again for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

Thank you for the update.

Regarding the latest version, yes, your understanding is correct. At the moment, one level supports a single NPC.

Multiple NPC support is planned and will be added in future versions.
