Unreal or Unity for Android and iOS

I’m looking for some advice on building applications for Android and iOS. I have experience using Unreal Engine and have successfully built applications for Windows, but I’ve never built for mobile devices before. Ideally, I’d like to continue using Unreal Engine, especially if the setup for mobile builds isn’t too complicated since I’m already familiar with it.

However, I’m open to switching to Unity if it would make the process easier. Do you recommend sticking with Unreal Engine for mobile builds, or should I consider learning Unity for this purpose? Any guidance or tips would be greatly appreciated!

For me it was an incredibly difficult and frustrating experience trying to get unreal to run on android. Even just setting up the right environment and dependencies. Many, many permissions issues and version mismatches. Do some unreal forum searching and youll find many people with similar issues.

Unity seems to me like mobile is more of a priority and it manages all the dependencies better out of the box but youd have to research to compare.

Still waiting for convai to release ios support for unreal so cant say about that either. Hopefully ios dev is a better experience than android.

Hello <@692122662952108062>,

Even if you don’t use Convai, Unity is generally recommended for mobile platform development.

Convai Unity SDK supports Android and iOS platforms.

I am using Unreal for Mobile games for last 6 months and I think it’s great for mobile with amazing graphics. But you need to learn how to optimise the game specially for mobile. Also there are very less tutorial available for mobile in unreal so you have to learn yourself with testing. If you need basic setup check my yt channel in my bio which has few videos related to mobile

Thanks everyone for the responses. If I switch to Unity, I’d have to learn it almost from scratch since I’m more familiar with Unreal Engine. Besides making builds for Windows, I once made one for Oculus, but the setup was quite complicated.

If Unity is really as well-optimized for mobile app development as you say, it might be worth learning.
