I found this to be a permanent update to the character’s backstory. If my game is available for multiplayer, one player’s progress will affect other players’ NPC status, which is not what I want. Is there any other way to solve this problem? For example, the status of the role is updated only during the current session, and the main information of the role is not modified.

With narrative design you can let every player have a different experience without altering the main information.
