I have a paid subscription to both Convai and ElevenLabs. When I enter my ElevenLabs API key (and then wait 12 hours) I can use my custom voices. However, after some amount of time, the custom voices suddenly stop working with no warning. I still have quota available on both services. If I generate a new API key, enter it, and wait an additional 12 hours, the custom voices are once again available, but break after some number of days. This is incredibly frustrating…
Hello @Jeff_Sipko,
Welcome to the Convai Developer Forum
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced with the custom voices integration.
To better assist you, could you please provide the following details:
-
ElevenLabs Plan: Could you confirm which ElevenLabs subscription plan you’re currently on? Custom voice integration typically requires a Professional plan or higher.
-
Testing Environment: Are you encountering this issue within the Convai Playground or within a game engine (e.g., Unity or Unreal Engine)?
-
Logs:
Playground: If you’re using the Convai Playground, please provide your browser’s console logs. You can access these by pressing F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (or Cmd+Option+I on Mac) to open the Developer Tools, then navigate to the “Console” tab.
Game Engine: If you’re testing within a game engine, please share any relevant console logs or error messages that appear when the issue occurs.
These details will help us diagnose the problem more effectively and provide a timely resolution.
I’m on the ElevenLabs Creator plan, which is still a paid plan supporting custom voices. I’m noticing this issue from within Unreal Engine, but if I then log into the Convai Playground, I’ll see the same thing. I don’t have the logs available right now, but if it happens again I will post them.
Hello @Jeff_Sipko,
Thanks for the update!
Please note that in order to use ElevenLabs custom voices with Convai, your ElevenLabs subscription must be on the Pro plan or higher. The Creator plan unfortunately does not support custom voices.
For more details on setting up and linking your ElevenLabs API with Convai, please refer to our documentation here ElevenLabs Integration.
Maybe the plan names have changed since you last checked, but even the “Starter” plan supports custom voices. See: https://elevenlabs.io/app/subscription. At any rate, custom voices are working again for me, so I’ll update the thread if I experience more issues.
Currently, only ElevenLabs accounts with their associated Pro plans and higher are compatible due to the 44.1kHz audio output. All tiers of Convai accounts can add an ElevenLabs API key integration.
As I mentioned, you may be looking at old ElevenLabs documentation. Starter and Creator tiers also support 128kpbs, 44.1kHz audio output.
