Not repeating the same product

Hi there,

We have a Convai character live that anyone can chat with. It responds and recommends a product.

It’s working well, but it keeps recommending the same products.

We don’t need the character to remember individual conversations, but we do want it to avoid repeating the same product recommendations.

Is there a way to track which products have been recommended and stop repeats?

Thanks!

Hi, I think you can use the memory of the character.

You can guide the character’s behavior by adding specific instructions to the character’s Description field.

For inspiration and examples, I recommend reviewing the Sample Characters available in the Convai Dashboard.

Thanks both!

If I enable the long-term memory function.. can I tell it just to remember what products it has previously recommended, and not to suggest them again?

Once I activate that, will that then trigger the Monthly Active End Users? At the moment that limit doesn’t apply to us.. but if I enable memory then I guess it would?

Thanks
Ben

Long-Term Memory (LTM) allows a character to retain information across sessions, which means it could technically remember previously recommended products and avoid suggesting them again. However, this type of usage isn’t its primary intent, so results may vary.

You can experiment by including specific instructions in the Core Description of your character. For example, asking it to track recommended products and not repeat them.

Also, you are right, LTM has a user quota.
