Ready Player Me Service Discontinuation

With Ready Player Me discontinuing its service, it has become difficult to import characters into Unity. Importing custom characters is challenging due to the complexity of settings such as lip sync configuration. Are there any plans to develop a system that allows for easy character import similar to Ready Player Me in the future?

Welcome to the Convai Developer Forum!

As you mentioned, Ready Player Me is no longer active, and there are already several threads on the forum discussing this change in detail. Right now, Convai does not provide a built in “one click” character import system.

You can still use your own characters by importing them manually into your project with proper blendshape setups such as ARKit, OVR, or Reallusion. Convai does not impose any restriction on which character models you use, as long as they are correctly configured on the engine side.

Hi user43 from personal experience I can recommend Reallusion Character Creator characters for using in Convai, their software is quite expensive if bought outright but they’ve just introduced a monthly sub, Character Creator 5 is iirc £8 per month, use it for 1 month to create your character then you don’t really need it (they have ready made default avatars anyway). Importing their characters into Unity does require a few steps, you’ll need to watch a video or read a guide, but none of it is hard.

Once in Unity, there’s a Unity Asset called Salsa Lip Sync (iirc it’s about £35 but it goes on 50% discount sale sometimes) which is literally a 1 click to set up lip syncing for the character, all viseme’s are setup etc, even emotion expressions are setup if you capture the emotion data from Convai. These avatars are very high quality, much more detailed than RPM avatars, if that’s what you are looking for, they run ok on Meta Quest 3.
