What problem are you trying to solve?

Hi Convai Support,

I’m experiencing an issue with one of my avatars.

I cloned an existing avatar and later disconnected one of the knowledge files associated with it. After that, the avatar entered a broken state.

Now, whenever I try to open the avatar, I receive an error saying that the referenced resource cannot be found. Additionally, if I try to edit any property (for example, the Description), the same error occurs.

The avatar is now completely inaccessible:

I cannot open it.
I cannot edit it.
I cannot delete it.
The error appears every time I interact with it.

Steps to reproduce:

Clone an existing avatar.
Disconnect one of its associated Knowledge Files.
Try to open or edit the cloned avatar.

Expected behavior:
The avatar should remain accessible after disconnecting a Knowledge File, or at least allow editing and deletion.

Actual behavior:
The avatar becomes unusable and continuously returns a “resource not found” error.

I’ve attached screenshots of the error for reference.

Could you please investigate whether this avatar can be recovered or removed?

Thank you.

Proposed solution

Please investigate and fix the issue causing avatars to become inaccessible after disconnecting a Knowledge File. The avatar should remain editable and removable even if a linked resource is missing. If an avatar becomes corrupted, there should be a way to recover or safely delete it

Use case

Avatar becomes inaccessible after disconnecting a Knowledge File

We use Convai in our Unity project to create and manage multiple AI avatars with Knowledge Files. We clone avatars to create new characters for different experiences. This issue prevents us from managing our avatars correctly

Current workaround

Currently, we have no workaround. The avatar cannot be opened, edited, or deleted, so we have to create a new one from scratch.
