Character Stops Speaking Before Completing Long Responses
What happened?
Hi Convai team,
I’m reaching out because I’m experiencing an issue with my character frequently stopping its speech while we are interacting.
I’ve noticed that this happens mostly with longer responses. The entire response is displayed correctly in the chat box, but the avatar stops speaking and the lip movements stop before the response has finished playing. I haven’t been able to determine what is causing this behavior.
The project is built in Unity 6.4, we are using WebRTC, Convai version 4.6, and Claude 4.5 Haiku.
The issue occurs both when running the project directly from the Unity Editor and after creating a build.
Please let me know if you need any additional information or project details from my side so we can identify the cause of this issue. This is a very important issue for our project and we would really appreciate your help in finding a solution as soon as possible.
We are expecting a large number of visitors on October 1st so we need to have this issue resolved no later than then.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!
I checked the relevant documentation, resources, and similar forum posts before posting.

I confirm that I did not include API keys, tokens, passwords, secrets, private character data, private conversation logs, or customer data.
I’m sorry to follow up again especially since I’ve already reached out a couple of times, but I’m in a bit of a difficult situation and your help with this is really important to us.
We’re expecting a large number of visitors tomorrow, so we’re hoping to have this issue resolved no later than tomorrow around midday.
I completely understand that your team is still reviewing the logs and that these investigations can take some time. I just wanted to kindly ask if there’s any possibility of getting an update by tomorrow afternoon at the latest, even if the investigation is still ongoing.
I really appreciate your time and support and I apologize again for having to follow up repeatedly.
Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance.
Thank you for following up. I checked with the team, and unfortunately, they’ve confirmed that this issue is unlikely to be resolved within such a short timeframe.
Issues like this require a proper investigation to identify the root cause, implement a fix, and thoroughly test it to make sure we don’t introduce any additional problems. For time-sensitive events, it would be helpful if issues like this could be reported earlier whenever possible so that we have enough time to investigate and validate a solution.
One possibility is that the issue may be related to the specific voice you’re currently using. In the meantime, could you please try switching to a different voice and check whether the same behavior still occurs?
If a different voice works correctly, that would also give us useful information for the ongoing investigation.
Thank you for the update and apologies for the pressure and the short notice. We understand that these things can take time to investigate.
I first tested the build version and the issue was still occurring. However, I’ve now done several tests directly through Unity Run, and it seems to be working perfectly fine there.
I’ll try building a new version and test it again to see if the issue is still present in the build. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thank you very much for your help and for looking into this!
I just made a new build and tested it again. Everything is working perfectly now!
I really want to thank the whole Convai team for the great support and all the help throughout this issue. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into helping me resolve it.
I’ll continue testing everything thoroughly and if I notice anything else, I’ll let you know.
The error is gone now and everything is working perfectly, thank you!
The only thing I noticed after the fix we did yesterday, after doing a lot of testing, is that very rarely, the character may leave a sentence behind and not actually say it, but instead it gets written in the chat box.
Also, sometimes the character seems to speak slightly ahead of the chat box .For example, it starts saying something, but the text only appears up to the middle of the sentence.
I’m not sure if there’s anything we can do about this, or if these issues are actually related to the fix we made yesterday.
